Abstract

Office surgery corresponds to simple, controlled surgical procedures carried out in an office under local anesthesia in France and not requiring post-operative hospital monitoring.
It is a common practice in many countries: 10 to 20% of surgical practice.
All surgical specialties are concerned apart from cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery.
The percentage of office surgery depends on the specialty: 5 and 40%
Currently in IDF, the deployment of this practice is mainly of interest to fields such as ophthalmology, ENT, urology, plastics and gynecology.
The benefits are multiple:
- For patients: easier, faster and less stressful
- For the surgeon: continuity of care with reduced risk of error, faster flow and less nosocomial infection
- For the establishment: release of unnecessary staff for these simple interventions and release of operating shifts for the benefit of more complex interventions
- For society: There is a balance between the means made available and the complexity of the surgical procedure; If implemented nationally, the savings would be enormous.
