Abstract
The recommendations for professional practice (RPP) on the organization of pediatric anesthesia in France were drafted by a group of experts from various public and private structures. The discussions were lengthy and the exchanges numerous, but we have arrived at reasonable and coherent recommendations with an indisputable aim of preventing anesthesia risks in young children. These RPP are an update of previous texts dating back over twenty years; they notably integrate recent elements from large international studies, including European ones, aimed at analyzing perioperative morbidity/mortality in children and associated risk factors. Thus, these RPP recall a number of organizational and structural principles already known, such as those derived from the third-generation SROS (2004), to which are added suggestions for organization adapted to the risk level of different pediatric populations. In the same perspective of securing practices on a daily basis, emphasis is placed on the notion of competencies resulting from initial and updated training associated with regular practice of pediatric anesthesia.
