Abstract
Being present on social networks is the first step for the 2.0 surgeon. Beyond this presence, the practitioner must understand that creating a community of patients is paramount.
Social networks are a unique kind of communication channel, enabling surgeons and future patients to interact with a practice.
Social media combine one-to-many communication (the practitioner talks to all his or her subscribers) - new equipment in the practice, new techniques... - with one-to-one communication (the practitioner responds directly to patients' requests and comments via private messages).
Social networks also help to spread the "spirit" in which the surgeon works, with a view to improving his or her e-reputation.
Let's take a look at how best to manage this presence between ethics and deontology.
