Abstract

Digital communication in surgery is both a legal and ethical issue. In theory, the surgeon could do without it and rely for his recruitment only on word of mouth. But, in practice even patients accustomed to the care of a surgeon look for additional information on his website and moreover it is often necessary to have to communicate by email or messaging. The days when patients waited for a response by post are almost over. This raises the problem of data protection, which is not at all guaranteed on certain channels. Another practical problem arises, that of information inflation. The surgeon must monitor the obsolescence of the information he delivers on his website. Another danger is linked to the ease of this communication, which has as its pitfall requests at any time including weekends and answers that would further justify a real consultation. In this presentation we will address all these practical problems.
