Abstract
This session, devoted to the practical training of operators, cannot avoid the question of what is expected of an "operator". The answer of surgeons and administrators is quite consensual and goes beyond the simple framework of technical training.
This interest in the initial training of operators is part of a singular context, motivated by a conjunction of events (reforms, constraints, innovations, societal evolutions, ...) that are more external rather than internal to the surgical discipline.
The university curriculum of the training of "operators" is validated through a "Diploma of Studies" and this name, rather than "Certificate of Skills", is in itself ambiguous in that it emphasizes more the theoretical aspect of the training rather than the preparation for the exercise of a profession. In addition: (i) current medical studies train students to practice medical specialties, but do not prepare them for the practice of surgical specialties and (ii) surgical studies still do not trace the skills that should be acquired, technical and otherwise.
This presentation will also discuss changes that could be implemented to improve the situation.
