Abstract

Today’s rhinoplasty should not affect nasal ventilation. By preservingthe nasal vault, functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty fulfills thiscondition. The main indication is the treatment of cyphotic or tensionnose. Rhinoplasty prevents most morpho-functional complicationsof conventional procedures and achieves a natural-lookingnose that ages well. However, this technique is not panacea for alldysmorphic or dysfunctional causes of nasal obstruction. Treatmentof septo-turbinal abnormalities and narrow nasal fossa must be performedconcurrently by turbinoplasty and intermaxillary disjunction. The natural looking operated nose, the long term stability of fun ctionaland aesthetic results, the decrease of surgical procedures onthe tip of the nose and finally the usual ventilatory improvementhave enticed us to pursue in this way (over 1000 functional andesthetic rhinoplasty procedures performed in the last 15 years).
