Abstract
A 40-year experience as a court-appointed expert in obstetrics and gynecology
concurrent with the practice of this speciality is reported.
The court-appointed expert is presented along with his areas of expertise, which
include, on the one hand rape and sexual assault cases, and on the other hand,
medical liability in cases where a doctor is accused of intentional or unintentional
negligence.
Emphasis is placed on the requirements of this expert practice, the impartiality of
which is consubstential with the existence of the court-appointed expert which is a
specificity of french law inherited from roman law and does not exist in anglo-saxon
countries
