Place of bariatric endoscopy

Bariatric endoscopy was born as an alternative to bariatric surgery, whose invasiveness frightens a lot of potential patients. Bariatric endoscopy is an innovating treatment of obesity and can be used in combination with others new therapies as new anti-obesity medications (because of different mechanisms of action). To date, the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is the most performed procedure worldwide. ESG can be performed by any practician trained to endoscopy and multimodal management of obesity. Because of its mini-invasiveness, ESG can be proposed even in mild obesity. Further studies are needed to define its place in the management of obesity.
