Abstract
The Fondation de l’Avenir supported a research unit originating from INSERM and the Faculty of Health Sciences, led by a gastrointestinal surgeon, for several years. These decisions by the Fondation de l’Avenir to support young surgeons or assist an engineering assistant at the start of her career have opened up possibilities that will be presented as examples. The mentoring of a young female surgeon will be highlighted to illustrate a path to success, set in context with other profiles. The distinction between researchers, clinicians, and educators will be explored, underscoring the need to foster dialogue among these three groups—not only in specific settings but, above all, with emerging professionals—and to sustain these collaborations over the long term.
