Abstract

The operating room represents one of the most significant areas in terms of a hospital's environmental footprint, due to its high resource consumption, waste production, and use of single-use devices. Faced with these challenges, the transition to an eco-responsible operating room is becoming a priority, balancing quality of care, patient safety, and a reduced environmental impact.

In this dynamic, learned societies play a key role by providing scientific legitimacy and structuring practices. They contribute to disseminating a shared culture, promoting evidence-based standards, and supporting professionals in the evolution of their practices.

CERES (Collective for Eco-Responsibility in Healthcare) is fully committed to this approach, leading the development of recommendations at the national level. Through the development of the first eco-responsible operating room framework, CERES offers concrete guidelines: optimizing workflows, reducing waste, choosing more sustainable equipment, and integrating environmental criteria into clinical decisions.

These initiatives reflect a gradual but structured transformation of the operating room towards a more sustainable model, without compromising medical standards. No Operating Room of the Future without an eco-responsible one!
