Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually transforming cataract surgery, impacting preoperative planning, intraoperative guidance, and postoperative follow-up. By leveraging large-scale data analysis, AI enhances the accuracy of biometry and improves the predictability of refractive outcomes, enabling better intraocular lens selection. During surgery, AI-assisted platforms provide real-time optimization, improved surgical guidance, and risk anticipation, leading to enhanced precision and personalization. Postoperatively, automated image analysis tools help detect complications early, assess visual outcomes, and tailor patient follow-up. These innovations contribute to safer, more effective procedures and support individualized care. Despite these advances, the integration of AI in cataract surgery also raises ethical, legal, and professional questions that must be addressed to ensure responsible implementation and maintain the human dimension of care.
