Abstract

TaTME is a technique for the excision of the mesorectum and rectum that was described in 2010. This technique consists of transanally sectioning the rectum with a sufficient margin. The rectum is then closed and the plane of the mesorectum begins to be dissected. A transanal trocar is placed to dissect the mesorectum up to the vertical part of the sacrum posteriorly until the opening of the Douglas pouch anteriorly. The resection is then continued in a conventional manner. The French trial (GRECCAR 11) is completed and the results are currently being analyzed. Many meta-analyses have been published on the subject and there are no major differences between the different surgical techniques (TaTME, laparoscopic TME or robotic TME). It is likely that there is a place for each of these techniques towards a Personalized approach
