Abstract
Six hundred patients presented with DSD, the annual frequency was 40 per annum.
The median age at the time of consultation was 7.7 years, and most of the children were raised as boys (67%).
The predominant diagnoses were :
- Idiopathic severe proximal hypospadias in DSDs raised boys
- Congenital adrenal hyperplasia in DSDs raised girls
- DSD cases with a doubt regarding gender assignment or sex of rearing, where surgery was not performed
- Other DSD
Surgical procedures were mainly hypospadias repair in boys wirh severe hypospadias and feminising genitoplasty in girls.
With a median follow-up of 8 years, the most occurring complication was urethro-cutaneous fistula.
Management of DSD must be multidisciplinary; surgery should not be considered an emergency and should only be performed by experienced teams.
