Abstract
Endometriosis, affecting 10-15% of women, is a public health problem. Surgery for pelvic endometriosis can be performed if medical treatment fails, or if pregnancy is desired. The benefit-risk balance must be weighed up. It can relieve pain and offer infertile patients a 30-40% chance of pregnancy. The limits of surgery are the risk of complications.
The management of endometriosis must be personalized and graduated, with a patient-centered approach. Complex cases should therefore be referred to referral centers. Intervention can be multidisciplinary, depending on the organs affected, and should be carried out using minimally invasive techniques and approaches.
In the future, new tools, the robot-assisted approach, augmented reality and artificial intelligence should be integrated into the surgical proposal; their place is currently being evaluated.
