Abstract
Recent retrospective and prospective trials show good tolerance of surgery outside the operating room. In a cohort study of 129,007 patients who underwent plastic surgery between 2008 and 2013, the complication rates were 1.3% in non-BO surgery vs. 1.9% in outpatient surgery and 2.4% in full hospitalization. However, there was an overall lack of data on the subject. The move towards an increase in surgical procedures outside the operating room must be accompanied by an approach to controlling the risk of infection. In addition to the standard precautions applicable to any patient, points of attention are necessary regarding the architecture and organization to improve the quality and safety of care during these surgical activities.
