Abstract
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has defined four types of patient-centred outcome measures that are used in clinical trials and health care to measure the effects of treatments or interventions on patients. These are known as Clinical Outcome Assessments (COAs). Of these, Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) has a special place, consisting of a "measure of health status [...] reported directly by the patient, without interpretation by the clinician or a third party". Health-related quality of life is therefore one of the most important PROs. We will explain these different concepts and their application in the specific case of adult status epilepticus. We will see that much remains to be done to provide appropriate care and social support.
