Use of laparoscopy in digestive and obstetric surgery in small animals

Since the 2000s, laparoscopic surgery has developed in veterinary surgery. The most common minimally invasive digestive surgery today remains gastropexy which can be associated with sterilization in large young dogs. Liver biopsies by laparoscopy is also common; the procedure is safe with little morbidity or mortality. Cholecystectomy is an excellent indication for minimally invasive surgery. In genital surgery, ovariectomy is the most frequently performed surgery. It can be done using two or three ports in dogs or cats. The technique is also very interesting in the treatment of ovarian remnant and for the castration of animals with abdominal cryptorchidism. The use of 3D laparoscopy and robotic surgery remains in its infancy in veterinary surgery, but numerous studies are underway.
