Abstract
The mental conditioning of surgeons is the result of a complex combination of factors related to their training, experience, work environment, mental health, personality trait, and ability to manage stress and make critical decisions. A balance between these different elements is essential to ensure optimal performance and quality patient care.
The use of mental imagery is a powerful technique for surgeons, just as it is for elite athletes. Numerous studies now demonstrate their effectiveness. By cultivating positive mental conditioning and using effective stress management and confidence-building strategies, surgeons can improve their performance and well-being, while providing the best possible care to their patients.
