Robotic Adrenalectomy

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is currently considered the standard approach to the surgical management of adrenal lesions.
The development of robotic surgery in recent years, and the undeniable advantages it has brought, have enabled this technique to be extended to include adrenal pathology.
The reported advantages are numerous: 3D-magnified vision, an additional degree of freedom by multi-articulated robotic arms with Endowrist technology, and a stable camera.
In addition, natural hand tremors are eliminated, the surgeon can operate comfortably seated and can perform the operation without a second operator.
All these advantages have made it possible to manage large masses even in obese patients.
We wanted to analyze the following parameters in 166 patients: age, sex, BMI, size, laterality, previous history of abdominal surgery. In our experience, the results have been very encouraging, especially in taking care of the voluminous masses. In most cases, BMI does not affect patient selection for this approach. Robotic adrenalectomy can be safely performed by experienced surgeons trained in laparoscopy but the learning curve is necessary.
