Endonasal surgical treatment of foreign bodies of dental origin in the maxillary sinus

Abstract
La physiologie complexe et fragile du sinus maxillaire est à l’origine de nombreuses surinfections sinusiennes liées fréquemment à la présence de corps étrangers d’origine dentaire.
Le mécanisme inflammatoire et infectieux ne pourra être rompu que par la réalisation de l’extraction du corps étranger associé a un nettoyage soigneux de la cavité du sinus maxillaire.
Pendant longtemps, cette chirurgie fut réalisée par voie de Caldwell Luc, intervention non dénuée de complications et supplantée depuis plusieurs années par la méatotomie moyenne par voie endo-nasale
Cette voie d’abord endo-nasal permet en effet l’extraction de la plupart des corps étrangers d’origine dentaire, un contrôle soigneux de la quasi-totalité de la cavité sinusienne et entraine des suites opératoires simples.

The complex and fragile physiology of the maxillary sinus is at the origin of many sinus infections frequently linked to the presence of foreign bodies of dental origin.
The inflammatory and infectious mechanism can only be broken by performing the extraction of the foreign body associated with careful cleaning of the cavity of the maxillary sinus.
For a long time, this surgery was performed by way of Caldwell Luc, an intervention not devoid of complications and supplanted for several years by the middle meatotomy by endonasal route.
This endonasal approach allows the extraction of most foreign bodies of dental origin, careful control of almost all of the sinus cavity and leads to simple post-operative follow-up.
