Abstract

New interventional radiology techniques are being developed in the veins of the liver (portal and suprahepatic), including venous deprivation, which combines embolization of the portal vein and one (or more) hepatic vein(s) with the aim of accelerating liver hypertrophy prior to a major hepatectomy. The latest technical developments in portal embolization and the first volumetric and functional results of venous deprivation will be detailed.

Chronic portal thrombosis in non-cirrhotic patients can have severe clinical consequences such as hemorrhage by rupture of varices or portal cholangiopathy. We will detail the possible technical approaches in interventional radiology to allow recanalization of the portal system in the context of non-cirrhotic patients.
