Abstract

Knowledge of pelvic neuro-anatomy is fundamental. It allows sparing perineal and pelvic function during pelvic surgery, and avoiding postoperative functional sequelae.
But learning and understanding of pelvic neuro-anatomy are difficult. First, because pelvic nerves are located in the retroperitoneal space and the latter itself is difficult to understand. Second, because pelvic neuro-anatomy is little taught. Finally, the literature about female pelvic anatomy is very poor compared to men.
Classical anatomical dissection of adult cadavers is not the optimal model for neuro-anatomy studies because the majority of pelvic nerves are thin and fragile. Recently, new tools are rising like 3D Anatomy reconstruction of real anatomical subjects using Anatomage Table®, or Computer Anatomic Assisted Dissection based on fetuses. The latter provides additional micro-anatomy information. These tools enable us to rediscover and better understand pelvic feminine anatomy.
The aim of this presentation is to provide anatomical content using new tools, such as 3D reconstruction and Anatomage® to improve learning and understanding of pelvic neuro-anatomy.
