Abstract

88 patients had middle third femoral fractures or distal femoral fractures, treated with Fin Nail Retrograde.
Among them, there are 57 patients (64%) who had their fractures healed in 6 months; 52 patients (69%) are between 15 and 40 years old and 5 patients (38%) are between 41 and 85 years old.
Among these 57 patients, 41 patients (66%) had early weight bearing before the 15th day post-operative, and 16 patients (60%) had weight bearing later.
For patients who had the weight bearing later; 5 patients (31%) could do knee flexion less than 90 degrees, compared to only one patient (2%) who had early weight bearing.

In conclusion
- The fractures in young patients are potentially healed faster than older patients.
- Early weight bearing has not been shown to be an important factor of bone consolidation, but it could help to decrease the complicated related to lower limb stiffness.
