Abstract
In this talk, I will first present about the subject of my studies in Paris on hip surgery with Pr. Lord and Dr. Marotte, and on hand surgery with Pr. Tubiana, Pr. Masquelet and Dr. Saffar, and about the obtention of my diploma in microsurgery. I will also report on the hand and hip surgery techniques developed in Japan, as well as on the history of arthroscopy, for which Japan has made major contributions throughout the world. In particular, I will talk about the first complete reattachment of an amputated thumb by Dr. Tamai, and about other microsurgeons. Regarding hip surgery, I will show Japanese rotational osteotomies and follow-up reports from other countries.
Finally, I will introduce the activities of AFJO (Association France Japon d'Orthopédie) and SOFJO (Société Franco-Japonaise d'Orthopédie), for which I am serving as the president on the Japanese side. The French side is chaired by Pr. Hernigou, and Dr. Caton is one of the board members.
