Abstract

The systemic analysis of serious adverse events reveals the weight of the human factor in the occurrence of these events. The technical performance of operators is therefore not enough to ensure the success of complex procedures without the non-technical skills that ensure the safety of the patient. These non-technical skills include the cognitive and social skills that enable a task to be carried out effectively. They include task management, teamwork and leadership, communication between professionals and with the patient, situational awareness and decision making.
