Abstract

Over time, our accumulated knowledge of the mechanisms of bone healing has allowed us to define proven principles. Stable bone fixation and filling of any defects are obvious requirements in cases of non-union. However, many philosophical conflicts and controversies have punctuated the history of bone reconstruction. These disagreements reflect the tools of each era, but also the ability of individuals to observe and anticipate. The early wars between schools of thought should certainly help us avoid new ones, but also make sure that we avoid the same technical errors, or even help us catch a glimpse of the future. There are two broad controversial topics: the physiology of osteogenesis/bone healing and the techniques used for bone repair. The light of past and recent events allows us to define questions and in some cases find answers related to various bone reconstruction themes.
