Abstract

Early onset scoliosis occurs before the age of eight and may sound seriously on lung development and reduce life expectancy significantly compared with scoliosis adolescence. Their treatment should avoid the creation of an extensive fusion in order not to aggravate restrictive respiratory failure by slowdown in growth of the trunk. Many technical innovations have emerged in recent years to correct the scoliosis without fusion. The standard surgical treatment is a growing rod, surgically lengthened regularly; helps stabilize scoliosis without interfering too much with the growth of the child. The knowledge of this technology and its frequent complications led to many technical innovations first and foremost the use of rods that can be elongated magnetically non-invasively, with outpatients distractions The second category of surgical device is based on the use of rods that will serve as a spinal growth guidance, not requiring repeat surgeryFinally, the third category of early surgical treatment is to slow the growth of the convex side of the scoliosis without fusion, order to improve Cobb angle during growth. These very attractive innovative techniques can lead to inappropriate procedures without consider the risks of surgery and progression of each scoliosisConservative treatment is responsible for fewer complications than surgery, thus it should remain the first-line treatment.
