Abstract

Padua University has taken, since Middle Ages, a decisive part in all progresses of medical sciences and especially in surgery and anatomy. Among the greatest names: Gabriele Fallope, Girolamo Acquapendente, Giovanni Morgagni and Andrea Vesalius.Thus, at the time of the Renaissance, a new approach to the human body was launched in Padua, based on a real observation of human body rather than bookish knowledge's.A new science was born: surgical anatomy.
