Creation of Pneumoperitoneum (PNO): 2011 Survey

Abstract
History: 1943 - Emergence of pelvic cœlio-surgery with Raoul Palmer, 1972 - first small bowel obstruction by Ph Mouret, 1973 - first ectopic pregnancy by H Manhès, first series of cholecystectomies by Ph Mouret : In all these cases, pneumoperitoneum was created by puncture in left hypochondrium with Veres Needle (VHG), same as in the upcoming several thousand œlioscopies (Cœlio). Some people think that «open cœlio» (OC) could solve the problem of some accidents; was this reply the solution to the very linked problems between the creation of the PNO and the introduction of the trocars. The aim of this survey was to shed light on the real state of things.Material: 40 replies were retained, from surgeons or homogeneous teams with an experience of more than 1 000 cœlios (France, Italy, Suisse, Benelux): 285 000 cœlios were analyzed with a good balance public-private: Public hospital: 45 000 cœlios (5 280/operator), CHU: 100 000 cœlios (6 200/operator), privates: 140 000 cœlios (8 400/operator).Results: Used procedures:VHG 60%OC 20%V.O.
