Abstract

The French military presence in Afghanistan is in keeping with itsparticipation as a leading nation in the Multinational Force supervisedby NATO. With the reinforcement of the French army and theleaving of the Germans in the area of Kabul, the Health Departmentof the French Armed Forces aims at increasing sanitary support,with the help of a mobile hospital, which is to open in summer2006.The author analyses the reasons for this choice. She describes thesuccessive steps of the project, surveys the main aspects of surgicalactivities that should be expected in a country at war, and mentionsthe place of this surgical structure among already existing sanitarymeans in Kabul.
