Abstract

Without emergency liver transplantation death occurs in 80% ofthe cases of fulminant hepatitis (150 per year in France). The useof artificial liver assist devices is necessary while awaiting transplantation.Among the various methods used, bioartificial liversystems are an obvious progress. Results of a clinical phase I/IItrial (including 10 patients) are analysed. All patients subsequentlyunderwent liver transplantation and were alive with a 2 yearfollow-up.
